The Swahili believe in ghosts and spirits and they referred to them as djinni.They believe that these djinnis normallytake the form of black cats and it is impossible to distinguish between a real cat and a djinni.

FAMOUS PLACES IN SWAHILI LAND

The Kenyan coast which is home to the majority of Swahilis in East Africa has a lot of historical sites that pull in a lot of tourists yearly and they include:

  • Fort Jesus
  • Old town

FORT JESUS

Fort Jesus is a fort or castle that was built by the Portuguese in the sixteenth century. The torture rooms and cell that slaves were kept before being transported elsewhere are still there.

OLD TOWN

Old town is a section in Mombasa where very old buildings still exist. The people who live there are Arabs whose ancestors built those buildings. The streets are very narrow and cars are usually not allowed in this section.
