Polish Cuisine and Traditional Foods

Sausage is an important traditional food in Poland.  There are many different varieties of Polish sausage. Kielbasa sausage is a national dish of Poland.

Hunter’s Stew or Bigos is another national dish of Poland.  It is made of meat and sauerkraut.  This dish is usually served with bread or potatoes.

Other Polish national dishes include pierogi (dumplings filled with potatoes, cheese and onions or even with meat or fruit), barszcz (beet soup) and gołąbki (stuffed cabbage rolls).

Potatoes and dark breads are eaten daily.  It is common to eat dinner in the afternoon around 1 or 2 p.m. In the evening, a smaller meal is served of sandwiches and salads for “supper”.
